Meet the scholars

I'm a first generation college student. Since my family didn't go to college before, they didn't think about the money process, didn't understand the subtle ways you have to pay for college. I'd like to thank the foundation and whoever was able to raise money for the scholarship because it made my life as a student much easier than it could have been.

I am so thankful to have been chosen as the recipient for the Helios First Generation Scholarship. I have been able to purchase much-needed college supplies, including textbooks, binders, and pens. In addition to these important items, I have utilized this offering to apply for my transfer schools.

This scholarship greatly help me in my education . It help me focus in more important thing like learning instead of stressing about money. College is really expensive and hard to navigate especially for a fist generation college student, therefore having a little help is a release. That is why I am really thankful for this scholarship.

Without the Helios Education Foundation First-Generation Scholarship, I would not be able to afford my college education. As a very low-income student, I find it hard to financially and mentally afford college, but with scholarships like this, I am able to pursue my dreams of working in the field of data science, where I find myself surrounded by opportunities.

This scholarship has impacted my education on a great level because it is helping with the expenses for me to pave my way through. I want become the first person in my family to graduate with my bachelor's degree and receive a career and not just a job. I am grateful to have been chosen for such an amazing scholarship.

I am approaching my final semester at the University of West Florida in hopes of becoming an elementary school teacher. These last few semesters have required that I complete field experience that I have had to take leave from work to complete. The Heloise First Generation Scholarship has made it possible for me to purchase books and school supplies during these semesters.

The Helios Education foundation first generation scholarship has helped me tremendously in furthering my education. It came in handy when I needed a new battery for my laptop. Thank you so much for your generosity. I plan to graduate with my bachelors this upcoming spring/summer in human services .I want to further my education in getting my masters degree sometime next year.

I’ve always thought about going back to school, but with a new and growing family it just didn’t seem feasible. Now, thanks to your generosity, my plan has been kicked into third gear. The Helios scholarship directly resulted in my decision to pursue a BA degree, rather than an Associates.

This scholarship provided me with assistance during my internship program. I am looking forward to graduating in December and becoming an educator, serving the children in our community.

The Helios Foundation has allowed me to stay on campus more than I could than if I had to get a job in order to take care of my financial situation, keeping my GPA extremely high. I strive to be a businessman in my future that will reach out to anyone who needs my help and not have them worry so much about funds.

The Helios Education Foundation First-Generation Scholarship has impacted me so positively by allowing me to get rid of my financial burdens by giving me more time away from work to focus on my academics. Also, it allowed me to be able to pay for my books and other resources that I needed to be more successful throughout my courses.

I first found out about The Helios Scholarship back in February. Mrs. Rose contacted me about it and I was just like ‘Of course!’ Whatever can help me with school is awesome. Financially, I don’t receive the most from financial aid, but the Helios Scholarship will help with textbooks and extra things I will need for school. It’ll just really help me along my educational journey.

I am sincerely honored to have been selected as a recipient of the Helios Education Foundation First-Generation Scholarship. This generosity made it possible for me to focus 100 percent of my attention on completing my degree. I am proud to say that I will graduate this fall from the Elementary/Exceptional Student Education Program at the University of West Florida

The scholarship has helped me to continue to work on getting my career without the fear of loans and debts. It has given me the chance to work even harder to male it worth while in my family we leave nothing to waste.

This scholarship has taken the worry of how am I going to afford to get my degree away from me. Being a single parent a full time worker and full time student finances are a big deal and this scholarship has helped me tremendously without having to worry as much.

I recently lost my financial aid because I became too depressed and stressed out to finish my classes for two semesters. With this scholarship, I have a second chance in moving up in my education and I honestly could not be happier. I feel very grateful for being given this opportunity, thank you.

This scholarship has helped relieve the stress of paying for my education. I was able to reduce the hours at my strenuous job and focus more on getting the most out of my education.

This is making a huge impact on my education by allowing me to attend school full time. Without it I would only be able to attend part time which would take me twice as long to graduate Receiving this scholarship is helping me fulfill that passion. As a single father of two sons, balancing college and life itself, has been a journey to say the least. I'm grateful to have received the Helios Education Foundation First-Generation Scholarship, which helped me and my family tremendously. I'll be graduating from Broward College this Fall.

Helios First Generation scholarship has truly impacted my education pathway. Coming from a family where I am the first to be on the path to finish my educational degree has a lot of obstacles especially financial. However because of this scholarship, I am able to continue my dream in being a future educator.

This scholarship changed my life, thanks to it I was able to continue my higher education and although at first it was a great challenge I am very proud of what I have become and I am eager to see how far I will go, again, I cannot be more grateful to The Helios Education Foundation for the great opportunity they gave me to fulfill my dreams.

I am very grateful that I can call myself one of the lucky recipients of this scholarship, as it has contributed to making my dream of attending FSU possible while experiencing far less financial stress. I am an Education major, which means that with every single class that I attend I am closer to being an educator and giving back to the community that helped me flourish.

This scholarship has impacted my education in such a way that it propelled me to step up and make the most of my college experience by joining Honor societies, partaking in extracurriculars, and continuously staying motivated to work hard to ensure that my donors’ contributions were put to good use.
