Meet the scholars

My name is Macy Neal, and I am an Early Education major. I feel very honored to have been a recipient of the Helios First Generation Scholarship Award. Receiving this award has allowed me to focus on my studies rather than educational expenses. I am grateful for the generosity of this organization and am very excited about my future.

I felt grateful for this opportunity granted to me because it has helped me throughout my classes. I was able to use this grant on my books, supplies, and college fee. Now I’m in my third year of college, the most important goal for me currently is to finish my education and get a degree. I will try my best to achieve the highest results in my study.

This scholarship has given me the opportunity to continue my education. I have been accepted to the College of Education’s BS/MS program for english education. I want to become a high school principal, so the next step will be to go back and get my doctorate and my leadership degree. Thank you so much for everything!

By awarding me the Helios Scholarship you have lightened my financial burden which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school, learning. Your generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the community. I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as you have helped me.

The Helios Education Foundation Scholarship has made it much easier to be able to attend the University of North Florida; because of the scholarship I was able to focus more on my schooling rather than having to worry about working to pay for my education. I plan on furthering my education past a Bachelor's in Music Education to at least a Master's Degree.

What an amazing feeling it was to receive such a great scholarship, I was very honored and grateful. Since then that scholarship has impacted my education a lot in a positive way. It begin to make me feel much better about my education, it made me strive harder for the goals I was reaching.

The cost of attending nursing school is steadily increasing. I am grateful to have received this scholarship that promoted my transfer into FSU. With this scholarship I was able to gather school supplies that not only support my educational journey but encourage me to keep persevering. This scholarship has helped me pursue my dreams of becoming a pharmacist. I want to be the first in my own family to be in college and pursue a career that I love in Biomedical Sciences. My senior year of college, I really needed some help. I had Florida Pre-paid but unfortunately it ran out at the end and the Helios First Generation Scholarship helped immensely. I am so eager to start teaching in the public school system after graduation. Thank you

This scholarship has assisted me in finishing up my last two semesters in college. My goal is to become the CEO of a financial establishment and finishing college is the primary step in my plan of expectations to accomplish my dream profession. Thank you for benefiting to making a difference in my life and permitting me to be apart of the first generation to go to college in my family.

It’s not a walk in the park being a first-generation college student. Neither my parents went to college. The scholarship will help me with a lot of things. It’s extra money I wasn’t expecting. I can use this for things I need, it defiantly takes some weight off my shoulders. I’m probably going to save most of it to use for when I go back to get my Bachelor’s.

This scholarship allowed me to continuey dream of being the first one in my family to earn a college degree. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity that this scholarship presented to me, and I could not thank the Helios Foundation more for choosing me.

This scholarship will allow me to purchase supplies for school, focus on my education, and complete my degree in a timely manner. I plan to get my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I was able to complete my Bachelors of Science with the support of this scholarship with zero debt. With the burden of paying for tuition I was able to focus on myself through studies and leadership opportunities like Campus Activities Board President and Student Body President which helped me secure a Project Management position.

As a senior in my last three classes I am preparing for my internship program. During this internship I am going to be fully devoted to teaching during the entire school day so I can no longer work outside of class hours. Thanks to this generous scholarship, I now have enough money to pay for my internship.

This Scholarship has helped me emotionally and financially . It helps me understand that hard work really does pay off and that people will recognize your potential. It gives me the confidence to move forward in my education because it shows me that as long as I'm focused and determined, I will always have supporters helping me reach my goals.

This scholarship allowed me to take a full term of classes, buy all necessary books, and even buy a new laptop for home! I greatly appreciated the opportunity of earning this scholarship. I can’t wait to become a 3rd grade teacher. Thank you so much for the amazing help!

Helios First Generation Scholarship has made a big difference in my education. The scholarship has helped me with financial hardships and has reduced the risk of applying for loans in the future. I was able to focus on learning, which has improved my retention of knowledge and led to better grades. While I am constantly trying to find more work and searching for scholarships that will help pay for my education, I remain grateful to find opportunities like the one your foundation is providing to students like me. It lets me know that I am not alone on the journey of accomplishing my goals. My educational aspirations consist of acquiring a bachelor's degree in education that would assist me in pursuing an education career as a special education teacher. The vision I have for my career is to one day be able to provide inclusive teaching and an exceptional learning experience for everyone. Therefore, I believe that pursuing such a career will provide me with the opportunity to help improve all student's educational opportunities.

The Helio scholarship has helped me continue my educational plans for obtaining my bachelors degree. When life has its unexpected consequences, I was fortunate to have help from FSCJ. This scholarship was a surprise and served its purpose. I was able to finish attending my fall courses and used the additional funds for childcare.

The Helios Scholarship played a huge impact on my life and in my career. I am now a Registered Nurse helping my community in this COVID era. I am also the first nurse in my family. I am now working on my bachelors at UCF and hoping to continue on with my masters in either a informatics or education.

This scholarship helped me to cover expenses during my time in community college. Allowing me to feel less stressed about the cost of my education and giving me the opportunity to focus more on studying. I am now an honors student and Finance major at Florida State University.

Receiving a scholarship has given me a chance to study and receive classes that otherwise would have been difficult for me. The scholarship helped me stayed focused on my classes as the financial concerned was lessen. My goal is to obtain a degree n the health care field, either as a nurse or respiratory care therapist.
